Tests on Bricks

  1. Compression Test
    • Purpose: Determines the load-bearing capacity of bricks.
    • Procedure:
      1. Place the brick between two plates of a compression testing machine.
      2. Apply the load gradually until the brick fails.
    • Acceptance Criteria: Minimum compressive strength should be 3.5 N/mm².
  2. Water Absorption Test
    • Purpose: Ensures bricks do not absorb excessive moisture.
    • Procedure:
      1. Dry the brick and weigh it.
      2. Submerge the brick in water for 24 hours.
      3. Weigh the brick again.
      4. Acceptance Criteria: Absorption should not exceed 20%.
  3. Soundness Test
    • Purpose: Checks for internal defects.
    • Procedure: Strike two bricks together; a ringing metallic sound indicates good quality.
  4. Shape and Size Test
    • Purpose: Ensures dimensional accuracy.
    • Procedure: Visually inspect bricks for uniformity and straight edges.
